Strategic Finder takes advantage of the search engines' most advanced features. Using a simple query language (AND, OR, NOT, inverted commas and brackets), Strategic Finder translates your query into the specific language used by each search engine. Thanks to Strategic Finder you only need to learn one query language. Search engines are classified by category (Web, News, Newspapers, Investment, Company information, ...). You can query several categories at the same time and consult dozens of search engines in one go. You can also set the number of results each search engine should collect. Queries can be saved as HTML files. Web pages can be saved in separate folders on your hard disk. This may be restricted to the title and URL of Web pages. Before starting a search operation you can tell Strategic Finder to disregard results from one or more undesirable sites. You may, for instance, devote a search to a competitor but exclude any information from their Web site. Results By optimizing connections Strategic Finder can start by displaying pages from the fastest servers. The first results appear almost immediately and you can start looking at them straight away, without waiting for the end of the search. You can start work while Strategic Finder continues in the background. The queries, information lists and Web pages are all displayed on the same screen. If necessary Web pages can be displayed full-screen. This avoids the bother of moving between several windows and makes it easier to keep your bearings, with access to all program functions. A summary displays phrases containing the keywords from your query, enabling you to rapidly skim over long Web pages. You may also produce a summary focusing on any word of your choice. Click a phrase in the summary to go straight to the relevant point in the page. The keywords used in your query are underlined. They will stand out immediately in the selected pages. Just click to move from one occurrence of an underlined word to the next. No need to waste time pointlessly. Go straight to the nub of the matter. Strategic Finder is also an Internet browser. You can input new addresses or follow up links in downloaded pages.
You can send interesting pages directly by e-mail. The Refine option eliminates pages that do not contain the words in your query. This function is particularly useful when search engines produce large numbers of poorly targeted results. An internal search engine is available for full-text searches in downloaded Web pages. This enables you to discard pages that do (or do not) contain certain words. To avoid cluttering up the hard disk pictures are not downloaded. They will only be displayed if the PC is connected to the Web during consultation. The Export (or Create report) function enables you to export your results for publication on an Intranet or the Internet. In a few clicks, results may be exported in the form of single HTML files or a complete Web site. Your fellow workers can thus access the results of your queries or the content of your strategic intelligence folders easily and quickly. Strategic Finder can interface with v-Strat, the first Intranet software for managing a corporate competitive intelligence system. Sending data to v-Strat enables it to be shared with all the other members of the network. Updating queries Strategic Finder enables you to update your queries and gradually refine the quality of results. Deleted information is automatically placed in the search trash. Invalid pages will consequently not be downloaded twice. The content of the search trash can be accessed and modified. Downloaded information can be updated. A revision sign highlights new information. Additional information may be added to an existing query. Managing information sources The number of sources included as a standard feature in Strategic Finder increases regularly. You may use Strategic Finder to update these sources free of charge. Specialized plugins for specific sectors or areas of activity, comprising several dozen search engines and sites selected by professionals are available, with regular additions. They provide an easy way of integrating the professional information sources specific to your trade. For instance there are plugins available for energy, biotechnology, Food industry, Denfense, ... You can add your own information sources using a specialist interface. Sites without an integrated search engine can also be added and consulted by Strategic Finder. Technical settings Strategic Finder can query an unlimited number of search engines at the same time. The number of simultaneous connections can be adjusted to optimize bandwidth (dependent on the quality of your Internet connection and how powerful your PC is).
Strategic Finder can connect to the Internet via a proxy server (even proxies using a login and a password)
